Our first Woodsmen Skills event has come and gone. It was held at Caesar's Creek Pioneer Village, and we built a half faced shelter and discussed other types of shelters. Blackie and I arrived Friday afternoon, and trekked about the village and the points around the lake... to inspect the site for the half faced shelter. Soon everyone started arriving. All together we had 11 people there, Capt McGee (GL-Gov, COHT), Blackie (COHT), Spin Dancer, Jessie, JD, Dave, Buzz, Issac, Becky and a couple from Boonesborough. Friday we met and greeted and ate a late supper. Saturday we breakfasted and rose and trekked out to the site for the half faced shelter and put to work. After a few good hours of work and discussion, and a few visitors... our work was complete. We than turned our attention to cooking for the evening feast. There was beans and sausages, pork chops, bean soup, bread, a lovely cake and pie, Ginger Beer as well as a few other tastey drinks provided by the apprenticing Tavern keep. We than enjoyed some good conversation on the finer points of sewing techniques and materials, as well as the planning of some events to be held in the future. We where treated every night to some talented musicians... JD and his father Dave. Buzz and Jessie kept us on our chairs edge when in the Tavern with a few jokes and fine stories. All this was inter mixed with some fine points of interest of the 18th century. Depsite the sighting of a "Beast-like" Cat prowling about the Tavern porch, the Sunday morning was blessed with a fresh winter snow fall. We had cool crisp enjoyable weather, to the teens and low 30's most of the time.

I would like to extend a warm thank you to our hosts... CCPV and Shelley for having us and letting us plan our event, and to those that came out and enjoyed the experience with us. Also let me invite you to come and join us at one of our other Woodsmen Skills events or any other event on the COHT calendar.
