A Message from your Editor

Hallo the camp! As your Editor for the Newsletter, I would really like to thank those of you that regularly contribute to the Newsletter... you help make my job easier, and you make our Newsletter that much better. The COHT being a member driven organization, we really depend on what "the member" offers to the organization. It really takes a special individual to contribute to such things at any given time, let alone regularly. Too often we hear complaints or criticisms about what is being done or offered... alwasys wanting something from - instead of giving to it. So to you the contributing members, I want to extend a "Thank you", thank you for giving and sharing despite busy and sometimes hectic schedules.

That being said, to everyone else let me offer encouragement and help in any way that I can. You need not be a award winning author, or even a speller... I live by spell check and sometimes that doesn't even help me. Please consider sending in a picture, a hunting or trek story, a idea or recipe. This is our COHT and our Newsletter... it will be as good or as bad as our members make it out to be. We all need to try and do our part from time to time. Please consider sharing.

Your Humble Servant,
CAPT. Dave McGee

From the Ohio State Representative

Hallo the camp! I hope the New Year finds you and yours doing well and healthy. A New Year, a new beginning... Wart has been our new Membership Director for a month now, and is doing a fine job at it so far. Lets keep him busy and check your membership cards and send in your renewals. Speaking of renewals... remember to renew before April 1st to save a few dollars. After that the dues goes up.

John Covert has saught to resign as the Great Lakes Territorial Governor, and I was asked if I was willing to step up and try and fill the vacancy. I excepted the position and so now we are seeking a new State Rep for Ohio. Emails and letters have been sent out asking for nominations to interested individuals. This position to be filled as of the Feb Meeting at CCPV. So if your interested in being the State Rep for Ohio, or know someone who is... email me the name or post it to the message boards.

The Ohio COHT Meeting is being held Feb 25-27, 2005 at CCPV. All members are asked to attend. There is a $10.00 a head fee for fire wood, those attending are asked to bring a PC donation for a prize for the drawing, bring something for the cook pot if you want to take part in the camp cook. There will be a few additional things going on as well. Bring your calendar and your ideas for any events. The meeting will be Saturday evening. We hope to see you there.

Your most humble servant,
Dave McGee

Here's a nifty little recipe for Strawberry Nut Bread:

10 oz sliced strawberries
2 eggs
8 tablespoons butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup white all-purpose flour
1 cup pastry flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. Salt
3/4 cup of your favorite nuts, chopped and toasted

Beat eggs until fluffy. Add oil, sugar and berries, beating until light. Mix flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg and salt. Blend flour mixture unto strawberry mixture until flour is moistened. Do not over mix. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased 9 1/2 by 5 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 min. or until tester comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes. Remove from pan. Finish cooling on rack. Serves 10.
